Position Summary

The Outside Nursery Lead is responsible for overseeing and actively participating in daily nursery operations. This role focuses on plant production and care, inventory management, greenhouse upkeep, irrigation systems, and order accuracy. The Outside Nursery Lead works hands-on with plants while providing day-to-day guidance to a small team, ensuring high plant quality, efficient workflow, and a clean, organized work environment. This position ensures that established production plans are executed effectively in the field. The role also communicates directly with the General Manager regarding operational supply needs and addresses other nursery-related issues as they arise.

Key Responsibilities

Nursery Operations & Plant Care

• Oversee day-to-day outside nursery operations, including plant care, organization, and workflow.

• Coordinate a small team by providing daily direction, guidance, and hands-on support (without direct supervisory responsibilities).

• Ensure the production plan is being executed in the field according to established timelines and quality standards.

• Ensure plants are properly maintained through trimming, fertilizing, watering, and general care.

• Participate directly in the production, assembly, and preparation of plant material.

• Monitor plant health and provide weekly updates on current plant conditions.

• Identify and address nursery-related issues as they arise to maintain smooth daily operations.

Inventory, Supplies & Orders

• Manage and track greenhouse and nursery inventory.

• Communicate directly with the General Manager regarding supplies and materials needed for nursery operations.

• Oversee and verify order accuracy prior to pick up or shipment.

• Load and unload plant deliveries in a timely and safe manner.

• Assist with assembling plant orders for customers.

• Operate a nursery tractor that functions as a forklift to move plants, pallets, and materials safely and efficiently.

Facilities & Irrigation

• Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and overall appearance of greenhouses and nursery spaces and nursery equipment.

• Manage existing irrigation systems and install new irrigation lines as needed.

• Perform general maintenance of facilities, including greenhouses and nursery infrastructure.

Deliveries & Logistics

• Occasionally, deliver plant orders to wholesalers and retail locations in the Austin area.

• Assist with coordinating deliveries and ensuring plants arrive in excellent condition.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience in nursery production, greenhouse operations, or horticulture preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate work for a small team.

• Ability to safely operate a nursery tractor/forklift (training provided if necessary).

• Working knowledge of irrigation systems and basic maintenance.

• Ability to lift, load, and move plants and materials.

• Strong attention to detail and organization.

• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with team members and management.

• Valid driver’s license preferred.
